A game of making and skiing
Ski Somerset was a game designed in collaboration with Vahakn Matossian for Super Christmas Market 2010 at Somerset House.
Visitors came from all over the globe to compete head to head on the slopes. Using their best making skills the prospective champions made their skiers from a variety of colourful natural play-doh and laser cut skis shapes accessorising them with cardboard scarves, poles and hats.
The skier was positioned in the chairlift at the rear and winched to the top of the 3 metre slope. The multi-coloured competitor would speed down the incline, and at the final moment a booster pedal was activated by means of a stomp, launching the skier into the air and into a pit of flour. If the booster pedal was stamped on at the wrong moment, it meant disaster and often exploding play-doh casualties.
Thank you to Mike Massaro for your amazing photography, David Sanderson for your outrageous commentary and to Lettie Rose for helping with everything and to everyone that was involved in the spectacular.
